Training

The International Education for Peace Institute (EFP-International) offers a variety of training programs to meet the needs of a wide range of individuals interested in learning about the conceptual framework, methodology, and skills of this highly successful and tested peace-based education approach. All EFP training programs are based on the extensive Education for Peace Integrative Curriculum and are delivered by the senior faculty of EFP-International.

The programs described here are specifically designed for teachers, teacher-training students, and other educators; individuals in positions of leadership in the civil society and governmental and non-governmental organizations concerned with education; and members of various professions dealing with issues of conflict resolution, violence prevention, peace building, and community development.

EFP TRAINING PROGRAMS

EFP-CF: Conceptual Foundations of Education for Peace
EFP-SM: Skills and Methodologies of Education for Peace

EFP-CF: Conceptual Foundations of Education for Peace

This is a guided self-study program of the conceptual foundations of the Education for Peace Curriculum. This course is equivalent to a 42-hour university/college semester course. Course participants may take up to one academic year (two semesters) to complete the requirements of the course.

The course is delivered in 10 distinctive units, as presented in the Education for Peace Manual. Participants will have access to an EFP-International faculty member via email and telephone. This course is designed for teachers and educators to help them integrate these conceptual components into their classrooms.

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the participants will receive an EFP Certificate of Completion, which may be applied toward obtaining the EFP Professional Certificate, and the Certified EFP-Trainer Diploma.

EFP-SM: Skills and Methodologies of Education for Peace

This is a guided self-study and application program for learning skills and methodologies of the Education for Peace Curriculum. This program is equivalent to a 42-hour university/college semester course. Participants are required to study and introduce the EFP skills and methodologies into their classrooms for at least one full semester and help their students to prepare and present an arts-based peace presentation on the classroom’s subject of study (e.g., literature, biology, history, sports, mathematics, etc.) The course participants will have access to an EFP-International faculty via email and telephone.

For the purposes of evaluation, course participants are required to produce a video-tape of their classroom’s peace presentation (30 minutes) and send it to EFP-International.

This course is designed for teachers and educators to help them integrate these conceptual components into their classrooms.

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, participants will receive an EFP Certificate of Completion, which may be applied toward obtaining the EFP Professional Certificate, and the Certified EFP-Trainer Diploma.

EFP-PC: Education for Peace Professional Certificate

The EFP-Professional Certificate is awarded to those individuals who, in addition to the satisfactory completion of EFP-CF and EFP-SM courses, will complete the following requirements:

  • Writing a 15-page in-depth review of selected EFP literature;
  • Preparation of five lesson plans for either primary or secondary school students on one or more area(s) of the candidates pedagogical competency and specialization;
  • Demonstration of proficiency in classroom application of the EFP principles and methodologies. This is done either by in-person demonstration involving a member of the faculty of EFP-International or by preparing a videotape of a classroom instruction (30 minutes maximum); and
  • Writing of a 15-page report on the experience, challenges, accomplishments, and lessons learned from the application of the EFP Program to their classrooms.

EFP-Professional Certificate candidates will have access to a faculty member via email and telephone.

This course is designed for teachers and educators to help them integrate these conceptual components into their classrooms.

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, students will receive the Education for Peace Professional Certificate, which may be used for obtaining the Certified EFP-Trainer Diploma.

EFP-CT: Certified Education for Peace Trainer Diploma

The Certified EFP Trainer Diploma is awarded to those individuals who have already obtained their EFP Professional Certificate and meet the requirements for admission into this advanced EFP Training Program. Upon satisfactory completion of the requirements of this Diploma, the candidates may apply for membership in the EFP Faculty Association as a Certified EFP Trainer. Among the benefits of this membership is the opportunity to participate, along with the senior EFP Faculty, in the training of teachers and other candidates in the principles and methodologies of the Education for Peace Program, whenever opportunities present themselves.

The requirements for obtaining the Certified EFP-Trainer Diploma are:

  • At least two full semesters of application of the EFP program in a classroom setting;
  • A 30-page in-depth review and critique of the Education for Peace Curriculum;
  • Preparation of 10 lesson plans for either primary or secondary school students in four different subjects of study at the primary or secondary level; and
  • Successful completion of an EFP Curriculum review process (a combination of observed presentations and conducting—along with a senior EFP faculty—training sessions for other teachers) to determine the applicant’s expertise in the use of all aspects of the curriculum and its methodology.

Certified EFP-Trainer Diploma candidates will have access to faculty members via email and telephone.
This course is designed for teachers and educators to help them integrate these conceptual components into their classrooms.

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, students will receive the Certified EFP-Trainer Diploma.

Requirements for Registration as a Certified EFP-Trainer:

Upon receipt of their EFP-Trainer Diploma and signing of a contract with EFP-International, they will be licensed by the EFP-International Academic Board to conduct EFP Training Programs on behalf of EFP-International and its affiliates within defined parameters (including programmatic and financial aspects).

Certified EFP Trainers will be listed on the EFP website on an ongoing basis, as long as they maintain their status as a certified member in good standing. Among these requirements are:

  • Fulfilling the EFP-International continuing education requirements;
  • Payment of membership dues; and
  • Abiding by the EFP ethical and professional standards as outlined in the “EFP-International Code of Ethics.”


School-based EFP Training Programs for Educators

The school-based training programs for teachers and other school staff are basically the same as those outlined under the above-listed EFP Training Programs. However, the specific schedule, the frequency of training sessions, minimum required participants, and the costs of the program will be determined on a case-by-case basis. These school-based training programs will be conducted, in person, by the senior faculty of EFP-International.
